Just saw a product yesterday at Home Depot that extends your reach by a couple feet for changing light bulbs. May help?

Sorry to beat this dead horse, but taking Berkman to Manor and turning left on Airport at the light is a MUCH safer alternative to left hand turns off Zach Scott. I don't understand why so many people resist this option.

I just had to post a link to <a href=""http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=88"">NPR's This American Life's episode this week. The theme of the show this week is "Numbers", or better described.."Using Numbers and Data in TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE Ways". <img src="themes/Default/images/Forums/icon_external_link.gif" alt=""http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=88"" title=""http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=88"" /> Like displaying your love life in an Excel Chart or...

Using statistically-significant survey information about people's tastes in art and music to create art and music. This segment had me laughing out loud. (cue to 12:55 for a laugh)

Because Americans prefer:
- landscapes over other scenes,
- prefer blue over other colors,
- groups of people over portraits
- political figures looking stately

you get something like this to please the most viewers...

Here is a link to national artistic preferences around the world.

Even funnier than the visual art were the audio tracks. The preferred music sounded like grocery-store quality RnB. Makes sense.

But you have to listen to what was determined by our least wanted musical ideals put together. Something like an operatic rap about cowboys, complete with tubas and bagpipes or even funnier, a children's choir singing about holidays at disco tempos. Something like this... (cue player to 8:30 for prime example)

from: http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/04/a-scientific-at.html

Unfortunately your closest thing to Asia Market (I have leftovers from there in my fridge right now) is Shanghai by Highland Mall. It's southern China style which means not the spiciness of Asia Market (Northern style).
Janitzio's on MLK by campus. Their breakfast tacos are the best thing on the menu.

Not in a row house, but my house did not have a coat closet, so I got a wooden coat rack tree that I have in a corner of the living room, and a potable storage closet I bought from the Container Store and I have that in my garage. It works well. I go out to the car, put on my coat and open the garage door. I use the tree for light jackets and guests , and the garage one for my heavier coats.

"..., sound conducts better, and therefore is louder, when the air is dense."

These are the words of the FAA in answer to a question concerning why airplane noise increases at certain times.

Also temperature is a factor. Many people have had the experience of how much more you can hear on a cold, winter night. Throw in the loss of foliage in the winter and you also have less sound absorption. Of course the foliage thing may not make much of a difference in our case.

Hi we also have a Volente. We changed all the light bulbs in our house recently to energy efficient light bulbs and that particular fixture was by far the most difficult to get to. If I remember correctly, I had one foot on the bar counter and the other on the step of a ladder to help with balancing and barely reached. That seemed to be the only way to get to it. Hope that helps.

Btw, I think your last suggestion is a good idea. The Volente plan did not offer a coat closet downstairs or linens closet upstairs. I'm curious about creative storage ideas some others may have come up with.

We bought a phase 2 Saldana home last month. It's a Dogwood floorplan. I can tell you that the people at Saldana are great. They have been very accomodating: they changed the floorplan around a little to suit us better, and they let us customize the finish out however we wanted. It was also nice being able to call up the owners directly and have them answer questions about our house. Another big plus for us is that Saldana's phase 2 homes have Austin Energy Green Building 5-star ratings. My understanding is that the only other builder in Mueller to have this rating is the high-end Streetman homes.

Great cucumber ritas.

East Side Cafe also great goes without saying really.

El Chilito is one of our favorites for pick up or nice day eating there. Kids love the popsicles.

I'm glad to hear about Primizie... that is the second recco I have had for that place.

We nearly always check yelp for reviews, too.

Felicia

We frequent El Chile's on Manor for Mexican food (not Tex Mex but true interior mexican food) which is awesome and for Tex-Mex, there is a Trudy's on 30th street close to the drag which is always a great choice. Of course for Miga's, you have to try Ciscos down on East 6th.

Hoover's is also pretty good for home cookin' meals. For a quick breakfast taco fix, try El Chilito's(owned by same folks who own El Chile) on Manor. It's a walk up and order place but does have some patio seating. They are also dog friendly if you want to join or avoid that experience.

We usually call Chinese food into the Pei Wei next to PokeJoe's over in Hancock, also a great BBQ if that interests you.

Can't really help on the Pizza topic though.

I'm not a pilot but I do spend a lot of my time sitting on airplanes traveling around the country and Asia for my job. The dynamics of aircraft require a certain amount of lift to go from the ground to the air and the best way to acquire that lift is to take off in the direction of the wind. During this time of the year in Austin, the prevailing winds are from the North so when airplanes depart ABIA they are pointed in the general direction of our neighborhood. By the time they reach airspace over our area, they are likely to be at full take off speed and probably still have the flaps on the wings down. Usually by Round Rock the flap are up and the engine speed is deminished while the pilot continues on up to cruising altituide.

This may be why it seems here lately the noise seems to be higher since the winds have been out of the North. By spring, they should be out of the South for the most part so the planes will be less noisy as they cross over our neighboorhood on their final approach to ABIA.

We bought a David Weekly home and in the contract there is a disclosure statement indicating there may times of excessive noise due to the air traffic control patterns over the area.

I'm kind of an airplane geek myself so the noise doesn't really bother me but I can see where it can be a source of annoyance.

Perhaps earplugs would do?

Craig
